Door County YMCA and Ministry Door County Medical Center unite to offer an Osteofit program for women who have a diagnosis of osteopenia and those who already have the diagnosis of osteoporosis. Participants will strengthen muscles and bones, which may help prevent fractures. Participants will engage in a holistic approach to bone health, which will include presentations from a range of medical disciplines, and how they how they relate to a person with bone health issues. Participants will also be instructed on how to use exercise equipment; balance, stretching, and postural exercises; lower abdominal strength; and educational modules. Due to the various stages in the disease and the physical activity involved in this program, a doctor’s medical clearance form will be required for participant’s safety.
