Art For Health - 2012

A Project of Ministry Door County Medical Center and The Art of Music

Art for Health and the Art of Music presents a series of FREE workshops for children focused on music and art using performance, demonstrations and other fun activities. All classes will be held in the Conference Center at Ministry Door County Medical Center from 4 - 5:30 p.m. on Tuesdays (ages 4-7) and Wednesdays (ages 8-12) starting Tuesday, January 24, 2012 thru Wednesday, February 22, 2012. Please note that Tuesday classes are for children ages 4-7 and Wednesday classes are for children 8-12. Children are encouraged to attend all five classes in their age group.

ALL CLASSES ARE FREE AND FACILITATED BY THE ART OF MUSIC STAFF & MUSICIANS.

All That Jazz – Rhythm & Dance (ages 4-7)

In this high energy workshop, children will learn a combination of jazz steps while gaining confidence and poise through the art of dance. A high energy class with a fusion of kicks, leaps and turns put to the beat of the music.

Wednesday, January 25, 2012

Jewelry Making (ages 8-12)

Children will have a great time learning basic jewelry making skills including bead stringing and beginning wire work. Each child will go home with a beautiful piece of jewelry for themselves or a family member.

I Have A Dream – Dream Art (ages 4-7)

Using small gems, paper, foil, paint and natural materials, children will create and design a beautiful box to hold their dreams. The class will end with an elaborate storytelling and  open mic session expressing personal dreams for the future.

Wednesday, February 1, 2012

Journal Making - Visual & Literary Arts (ages 8-12)

Children will create hand-made journal covers using water based ink. Journals will be filled with white paper and the binding will be from a stick found in the park. Raffia, leather,  hemp twine and ribbon will also be used to decorate your journal. Your journal will be an exuberant piece of art.

Drama In A Bag (ages 4-7)

Drama is a wonderful way for children to learn how to communicate clearly, to work well with others and to unlock their unique creative gifts and abilities. Children will explore the world and themselves through drama, with unique lessons paced with fun games, challenging exercises and exciting performance opportunities.

Song Writing For Kids (ages 8-12)

Through games, singing and exercises, kids will explore 5 components of basic song writing, rhythm, rhyme, song structure, lyrics and melody. A strong emphasis is placed on collaboration. Using the tools they learn, students will join together to write an original song from start to finish. They will then have the opportunity to perform their original works in front of family and friends.

Paint Me A Song – Broadway Song Birds (ages 4-7)

Children will listen to live music by local artists and then paint the colors, shapes, and images that they feel and hear. Children will sing, dance and have a blast in this exciting music and performance class.

Fiber Arts / Puppet Making - Puppet Show (ages 8-12)

Kids will become puppet makers as they each create a puppet to take home. Kids will have an opportunity to experiment with sock puppets, canvas puppets, paper bag puppets, stick puppets and hand puppets.

Peanut Butter & Jam (ages 4-7)

Children will have the opportunity to experiment with all different types of musical instruments and then play in a jam session with Door County musicians.

Children Improv, Drama & Dance (ages 8-12)
