Total replacement of a hip, knee or other joint (including shoulder and elbow) involves replacing the joint with an artificial one. The procedure is applied to relieve pain and restore motion or mobility.
The recovery process is different for everyone. Dr. Davis and Dr. Tomaszewski both agree that the patient should begin using the new joint shortly after the operation. For example, after hip or knee replacement surgery, patients will begin walking the day after the procedure. The surgeons work very closely with the rehab team to develop a customized exercise program based on your needs and abilities.
