Ministry Eagle River Memorial Hospital Begins Planning for 50th Anniversary
Recently Ministry Eagle River Memorial Hospital (MERMH) leadership met with a group of community leaders, former hospital board members, previous staff and current employees as well as hospital volunteers to generate ideas for celebration of MERMH’s 50th anniversary. “We are very excited that so many individuals participated in this discussion. With the interest and enthusiasm for this celebration we look forward to working collaboratively with the community to ensure we appropriately honor this history,” said Laura Magstadt, Director of Nursing and Operations, MERMH.
In the 1950’s the need for a modern hospital in Eagle River was becoming apparent, and through the dedicated and hard work of community members, service organizations and philanthropy, Eagle River Memorial Hospital opened its doors on September 20, 1961. Again, through the Eagle River community’s spirit of giving, additions were added in 1969, 1977, 1983 and 2001, which is the hospital that serves our community today.
Christine Caz, Community Services Coordinator for Ministry Howard Young Health Care is helping to coordinate the telling of the hospital’s story throughout the year. “What I am looking for are photos, artifacts and stories that are out in the community. We are very proud of our 50 years of accomplishments. I am asking any community member that can help me piece this story together to contact me. Hundreds of Eagle River community members contributed their time and money to bring this dream to life, now I need help in honoring their hard work and our hospitals achievements,” said Caz.
A number of activities are being planned. If you have anything you can contribute or have any questions, please contact Caz at 715-479-0230 or email her at Christine.Caz@ministryhealth.org.
“This is going to be a wonderful opportunity for us to tell our story that is rich in community participation, teamwork and philanthropy. Help us to honor this history,” said Magstadt.
