Registrations now being accepted for free health screenings, healthy lifestyle display materials available
The Merrill Area Healthy Lifestyle Network (MAHLN) is once again sponsoring a week of activities to raise awareness in Merrill of the importance of a healthy lifestyle. The third annual Be Healthy Week will be held April 19-25 and encourages everyone to participate in some way.
Because of the current economic times, MAHLN has decided to provide projects aimed at giving back to our community. Free screenings and educational opportunities are being provided through the financial support of other agencies. Because advance registrations or requests are required in some of these options, those opportunities are being outlined here. Many additional services will be provided and promoted closer to Be Healthy Week.
The Marshfield Clinic and Ministry Health Care heart care team will provide free heart health assessments on Monday April 19 from 3-7 p.m. and Tuesday April 20 from 7-11 a.m. These adult screenings and consultations will be held on the 4th Floor of Good Samaritan Health Center and will feature cholesterol, blood glucose, blood pressure and body mass index testing. Advanced registration is requested by calling Good Samaritan Health Center at 715.539.5090.
Cholesterol screening is limited to the first 150 registrants and is provided in part by support from the Merrill Area Community Foundation – a fund of the Community Foundation of North Central Wisconsin.
In addition to the heart health assessments, Lincoln County Health Department will be providing free adult vaccinations including tetanus, Hepatitis A and B and HPV injections. During the Monday screenings, Dr. Jeff Chism of Advanced Foot and Ankle Center will also be providing free diabetic foot screenings.
In addition, area businesses and industries interested in posting educational display boards and handouts with information on healthy lifestyles, please contact Carol Crevier at Good Samaritan Health Center at 715.539.5075 or by e-mail at email@example.com. Display boards will be on loan for a week with drop off and pick up provided by MAHLN.
