Merrill Child Care Celebrates 20 Years of Service to Merrill Community
What started as a desire to provide quality child care to children of employees at Good Samaritan Health Center, related health service employees and community families, Merrill Child Care has since grown into a community resource at three different locations.
On August 8th, Merrill Child Care celebrated 20 years of service to the Merrill Community.
In that 20 year span, the program which started as a single room with five staff members providing care to infants and toddlers has grown into a multifaceted program with 17 staff that has provided an important building block for families throughout the years.
“It is definitely exciting to celebrate 20 years of service to our families and community,” said Sandi Schmeltzer, director of child care programs at Good Samaritan Health Center. “We have been blessed with wonderful families and a dedicated staff that provide unique opportunities to the children.”
In the past 20 years, Merrill Child Care has added nursery school, Pre-K before and afterschool care and summer programs to its services which have expanded to additional locations at the Merrill Headstart Center and Kate Goodrich Elementary School.
“We want our children to have a good experience and have developed our programs to utilize a number of community assets,” added Schmeltzer. “Another positive thing about is our facility is that many of our staff have been with us for a long time and their dedication is one of the main reasons why our group care is a success.”
The main Merrill Child Care location, located in the Menard Center on the Good Samaritan campus is licensed for 112 children. The Kate Goodrich before and afterschool program is licensed for 32 and the full-day program at Headstart is licensed for 20 children.
“We are sincerely proud of the accomplishments of the Merrill Child Care center over the past 20 years,” said Mike Hammer, Good Samaritan Health Center president. “Quality child care is a tremendous challenge for many families and our staff has worked hard to provide a safe and healthy environment and a service that is filling a definite need in the Merrill community.”
Families and staff at Merrill Child Care celebrated the 20th Anniversary with a Hawaiian Luau.
