Ministry Good Samaritan to Host Pre-teen Education Program For Girls
In today’s world, kids are exposed to so much information about sex and relationships on TV and the Internet and by the time they approach puberty, they may believe they are familiar with some advanced ideas.
Talking about the issues of puberty remains an important job for parents because not all of a child's information comes from reliable sources.
In an effort to ease the transition period for girls at this age, Ministry Good Samaritan Health Center in Merrill will host “About You Girls,” an educational program for fourth grade girls accompanied by an adult woman. This free program will be held on Wednesday, March 23, from 6-8 p.m. in the Ministry Good Samaritan Cafeteria.
Area health care professionals will present on the physical and emotional changes girls may experience and provide insight into healthy habits that may positively influence these important years.
Featured Presenters include:
Dionna Pendleton, M.D., Family Medicine Specialist from Ministry Medical Group in Merrill with information on the physical changes that girls can expect in this transition period.
Kari Mizgalski, registered dietician from Ministry Health Care will discuss healthy eating and provide insight into what is considered normal size/weight for girls of this age.
Deb Zuelsdorff, physical therapy assistant from Ministry Good Samaritan Health Center will provide information on healthy exercise and attitudes toward sports.
Evelyn Lee, mental health counselor with Family Counseling Services will focus on mother/daughter communication skills along with emotional changes.
