Auxiliary of HYMC welcomes Christine Alfery as fine art chairperson

For roughly two decades, the halls of Howard Young Medical Center (HYMC) have served as a place for displaying local artists paintings, drawings, photography, as well as three-dimensional artwork. Hospital administration plans to continue that tradition and recently announced that a role within the hospital volunteer organization has been created to lead in the coordination of future displays. Christine Alfery, artist and art educator, recently joined the Auxiliary of Howard Young Medical Center and will serve in this new role as the Fine Art Chairperson.

As an artist, Alfery has competed across the country and her work has earned major honors and awards. A frequent visitor to the northwoods, Alfery and her husband moved to the area roughly two years ago from Madison where she taught art at the University of Wisconsin.

“We are fortunate to have Christine leading this effort. Her creativity, energy and expertise will strengthen the ongoing coordination of exhibitions and education,” stated Laurie Oungst, Vice President of Hospital Operations. Exhibitions will feature local artists and at times expand to include state and national artists. Educational programs will include lectures, films, discussion and guided tours of artists who are featured in the exhibition space.

Thirty artists from the Lakeland area are currently exhibiting their work in the spring exhibition at the Howard Young Art Gallery. According to Oungst, “The hospital’s commitment to the visual arts is due - in part - to honoring the legacy of S. Howard Young and his passion for art as a dealer and collector, as well as the philosophy that art is central to healing, wellness and quality of life. We look forward to furthering our commitment as we work with area art leagues and individual artists into the future.”

The Howard Young Art Gallery is located in the HYMC at 240 Maple Street in Woodruff, Wisconsin. If you are interested in exhibiting please contact Christine Alfery at 715-588-7115 or
