HYMC Hosted Pediatrics Day for Area First Graders
(WOODRUFF, Wis.) – “I want to be a doctor when I grow up!” Those words were uttered by several children during Howard Young Medical Center’s annual Pediatrics Day on Wednesday, May 21.
Approximately 150 first graders from MHLT, Lac du Flambeau Elementary, Trinity Lutheran, North Lakeland, and Saint Germain Elementary took part in the event which provided educational opportunities for the children.
During the event, the first graders dressed up like doctors and surgeons, learned about germs, found out what dirt looks like on their hands under a black light and how to remove it by washing their hands effectively, discovered what broken bones look like on an X-Ray and also received a finger cast. The children heard from a registered dietician about healthy eating and drinking habits, met several pet therapy dogs, checked out the inside of an ambulance (before it had to leave on a call), went through several exercises led by the HYMC rehabilitation department, and concluded the day by visiting Ministry’s northern region helicopter, Spirit Air 2.
