(Eagle River, WI) – The Partners - Auxiliary Ministry Eagle River Memorial Hospital, through its fundraising efforts, donated $50,000 to the Howard Young Foundation Special Gift Initiative on March 19. The donation will benefit health and wellness related services at Ministry Eagle River Memorial Hospital (MERMH).
The Partners - Auxiliary raises money throughout the year through sales at the Hospital Gift Shop inside MERMH, and the Auxiliary Thrift Shop, located at 209 East Pine Street in Eagle River.
“We are very proud of our medical care at Ministry Eagle River Memorial Hospital, and we want to do what we can to help our patients and staff,” said Partners President Peggy Lambert. “Volunteers provided 22,300 hours of service in 2012, and we feel that we are making a positive impact on health care in our community.”
“This donation to the Howard Young Foundation was made possible thanks to the countless hours our hospital volunteers dedicate to the Auxiliary, and the community,” said John Lund, president, Howard Young Foundation, Inc. “Thanks to our generous donors, the Howard Young Foundation is able to support the needs of Ministry Eagle River Memorial Hospital by purchasing state-of-the-art equipment that enables patients to receive testing, and services, right here in the Northwoods.”
In 2012, generous gifts from donors made it possible for the Foundation to fund a Therapeutic Hyperthermia machine for MERMH. Ministry Eagle River Memorial Hospital now joins the Mayo Clinic, and many other hospitals around the nation, including Howard Young Medical Center in Woodruff, in being able to offer this state-of-the-art, life saving, medical technology to patients who have suffered cardiac arrest.
In recent years, Auxiliary donations were used to purchase a state-of-the-art ambulance, and also the latest critical care technology LIFENET®. With the push of a button, LIFENET® allows EMTs to transmit a heart attack patient’s electrocardiogram (EKG) directly to Ministry Eagle River Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Department.
Howard Young Foundation, Inc. is a quasi-independent philanthropic, not-for-profit, charitable corporation. Established in 1985, the primary purpose of the Foundation is to actively seek and invest charitable support for Ministry Eagle River Memorial Hospital and Howard Young Medical Center in Woodruff. “Because of a continued decline in reimbursements from Medicare and Medicaid programs, our hospitals must increasingly rely on philanthropic support to assure the high quality of care our residents and visitors expect and deserve,” added Lund.
