(WOODRUFF, WI) – Howard Young Medical Center and Ministry Eagle River Memorial Hospital donated $1,000 on behalf of its associates to the Domestic Abuse & Sexual Assault Program in Lac du Flambeau. The donation honors Ministry Health Care’s Mission and Values Week.
In addition to the financial contribution, Ministry Howard Young Health Care associates from Woodruff and Eagle River also donated dozens of items and gift cards to support the Domestic Abuse & Sexual Assault Program. The donated items included diapers, baby wipes, baby lotion, baby shampoo, baby wash, water, and gift cards.
“We had the opportunity to tour the facility and were very impressed with the staff and the mission of the program,” said Judi Nelson, privacy officer, Ministry Howard Young Health Care. “The Mission and Values Committee was honored to present the donation to the shelter on behalf of our associates, and Ministry Health Care.”
The program offers 24 hour crisis intervention, information and referrals, emergency shelter for victims and their children, advocacy and support services, transitional living for victims and their children, and other economic support and educational services.
The Domestic Abuse & Sexual Assault Program has been in existence since 1985 and the facility that Ministry Health Care staff toured opened ten years ago. Due to increased awareness, and the addition of the sexual assault program, the program has seen an increase in the number of reports since last year. The facility has been consistently full for the past two and a half years, and the need for funds and donated items is always prevalent.
For a week each year in September, Ministry Health Care celebrates Mission and Values Week to coincide with the Feast of the Sorrowful Mother. In this system-wide celebration, the mission and values of the Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother are shared among all hospitals and clinics to educate, renew, and reinforce their importance in the Ministry Health Care system.
