Ministry Health Care Supports Local Soccer

(WOODRUFF, WI) – Ministry Health Care recently contributed $1,000 to support the Greater Lakeland American Youth Soccer Organization (GLAYSO). Each Saturday during the season, an average of 400 children from Minocqua, Woodruff, and the surrounding communities, participate in youth soccer games at Arbor Vitae - Woodruff School.

GLAYSO practices begin the first week of August, and the first games are scheduled on Saturday, August 10. The season runs through the first weekend in October, culminating in the Full Moon Jamboree tournament. Children between the ages of 4 - 14 as of July 31 are eligible to play.

The GLAYSO mission is to provide a quality youth soccer program where everyone builds positive character through participation in a safe, fun, family-oriented soccer environment. The league’s six philosophies are: everyone plays, balanced teams, open registration, positive coaching, good sportsmanship, and player development.

The contribution from Ministry Health Care will support registration fees for low-income families who would otherwise not be able to afford their kids the opportunity to play. “Our registration fees are among the lowest in the nation, and we do everything we can to keep them that way so money is never the reason for a child not playing,” said Jeff Waite, regional commissioner for GLAYSO. “This generous support from Ministry Health Care will allow us to make sure that is the case. We value their support both on and off the soccer field.”

“We are dedicated to promoting healthy lifestyles for children and this contribution helps support physical activity at an early age,” added Sheila Clough, president, Ministry Howard Young Health Care. “We are honored that several of our employees support youth soccer as volunteer coaches, or have kids participating in the Greater Lakeland American Youth Soccer Organization each year.”

Registration will be held Tuesday, April 16, and Wednesday April 17, from 5 – 7 p.m. at the Arbor Vitae - Woodruff (AV-W) elementary school. You can also register online at www.eayso.org, then bring a copy with you to the registration at AV-W to quicken the process. Registration fee is $50 for ages 6-14 and $25 for ages 4-5. Not included in the registration fees are the required shin guards, and appropriate shoes. Uniforms (jerseys, shorts and socks) are provided, along with certificates for a free soccer ball, thanks to the generosity of Minocqua Tire & Auto.

The success of each season is directly proportional to the number of volunteers supporting the program. Volunteers have found the experience rewarding as it helps develop the character of our youth. Please consider becoming a volunteer coach, referee, or administrator. No experience is necessary, and training is provided for all volunteer positions.
