Komen Central Wisconsin Race for the Cure Announces the Kids for the Cure T-shirt Design Contest

April 30, 2014

The Central Wisconsin Affiliate of Susan G. Komen and Ministry Health Care are pleased to announce the Kids for the Cure® T-shirt design contest is open for entries.

Kids for the Cure® is special program sponsored by Ministry Health Care that provides an interactive event for the children and grandchildren of survivors and racers to make the 2014 Race for the Cure a family-friendly event.

The contest is open to all children who live in Langlade, Lincoln, Marathon, Portage, Taylor, Wood, and the western half of Shawano counties. Children who are younger than 13 years of age as of September 1, 2014 are invited to submit an original drawing for the contest. The winning design will be used for the 2014 Komen Central Wisconsin Kids for the Cure T-shirt, which will be distributed at the Kids for the Cure tent on the 400 block in Wausau on Sunday, August 10, 2014 during the Race for the Cure festivities.

“We are pleased to be part of this event,” said Tom Weaver, Public and Community Relations Manager, Ministry Health Care. “Breast cancer is a disease that affects many families in our communities. Getting children involved at an early age will help us build awareness for the next generation.”

Ministry Health Care has been a generous sponsor of Kids for the Cure since 2011.

“Ministry Health Care provides an important component to our Race,” said Susan Hoffert, Komen Central Wisconsin Race Co-chair. “When a man or a woman has breast cancer, it affects the entire family, including children or grandchildren. Susan G. Komen is here to build awareness, provide educational opportunities in our communities, and support the families in our area who are currently dealing with this disease. We are delighted that Ministry Health Care has again partnered with us to help children in our area participate in the Race for the Cure event.”

Contest entries will be collected until, Monday, June 16, 2014.

Each design submitted must be the child’s original artwork. By submitting a design, the child and the child’s parents and/or guardians consent to the entries becoming the property of the Central Wisconsin Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure® and agree to the entry being used for promotional purposes. Entries will not be returned.

All entries will also be digitally scanned and uploaded to Komen Central Wisconsin Facebook page to share with the community.

Entries will be judged based on the creativity, neatness, and the incorporation of the overall spirit of the Race for the Cure® theme “Run Local. Fund Local” by a panel of representatives from Ministry Health Care and Komen Central Wisconsin. The judges’ decision will be final.

Two winners (one from children ages 6 to 13 and one from entrants younger than 6 years old) will be chosen. The Grand Prize winning design will also be featured on the T-shirt. The runner-up will also be eligible for a prize.

The winners and their parents and/or guardians will be asked to attend the Kids for the Cure Event and be the honorary starters at the One-mile Family Walk on August 10, 2014. The winning entries of the T-shirt design contest will be announced on stage at the 2014 Central Wisconsin Race for the Cure.

The rules for the competition are:

• Artwork must be submitted on the Kids for the Cure entry form or on 8 ½" x 11" white paper or card stock and mailed flat (folded paper cannot be formatted for T-shirt printing) to Central Wisconsin Komen Race for the Cure, PO Box 187, Wausau, WI 54402-0187, or dropped off at designated locations by Monday, June 16, 2014.

• Design should incorporate the Komen pink ribbon logo somewhere in the art.

• Only markers (best) and colored pencils should be used in the artwork. Please do not use crayons or colored pencils, as they do not transfer well onto T-shirts.

• Incorporation of the children and this year’s race theme: “Run Local. Fund Local” is suggested.

• Please limit design to five to eight colors – bright colors work best.

On the back of the artwork, please print the following information in an area that will not interfere with the design:
• Child designer’s name and age
• Parents’ and/or guardian’s name
• Home address
• Contact telephone number
• E-mail address

An official entry form can be downloaded from the Komen Central Wisconsin website at www.komencentralwi.org/kidsforthecurecontest
