Groundbreaking for new clinic site on Westwood Drive set for Summer 2015

(MILWAUKEE, Wis)— Ministry Health Care (MHC) is pleased to announce construction of a major medical clinic on Wausau’s west side as one of our first steps to implement recently announced plans to expand healthcare services across central and northern Wisconsin.

Ministry Medical Group (MMG) will break ground for a major clinic site this summer on property located along Westwood Drive near Bridge Street and adjacent to I-39. A three-story, 50,000 square foot facility will be constructed at the site to expand medical group services which will include primary and specialty care, advanced diagnostics, lab services, and therapies. Once construction begins, officials indicate the facility will take approximately twelve months to complete and be ready to provide patient care.

“The MMG Westwood Clinic is the first of a number of steps we are taking to increase access to affordable, person-centered care in the greater Wausau community,” stated Daniel Neufelder, President and CEO for Ministry Health Care. “This is an important part of our strategy to expand healthcare services along the I-39 corridor in central Wisconsin. The Westwood Clinic is designed to provide high quality, person-centered care at competitive prices to help lower the cost of care to patients along with local employers who are served via Employer Solutions.”

“MMG is positioned for significant growth in the Wausau, Weston and Merrill communities by focusing on more creative and innovative ways to deliver care,” explained Mike Hanson, Chief Operating Office for Ministry Medical Group.

Dr. Heong P’ng, Interim Chief Medical Officer for Ministry Saint Clare’s Hospital described how the medical group will focus on increased customer convenience with three distinct levels of care that include:

• MMG Person-Centered Medical Homes (PCMH) which are highly effective for assisting patients with chronic health conditions and managing them to avoid more expensive care in the hospital or emergency department
• MMG Neighborhood Clinics located in numerous central Wisconsin communities to offer quick and convenient access to basic healthcare needs for individuals and families
• HealtheVisits which offers web-based access to care with a flat fee for select treatments with the added convenience of accessing care at home

“Patients today want quick and convenient access to high quality, person-centered care at an affordable cost,” stated Dr. P’ng. “Consumers have more choices than in years past and our strategy is to offer them access to care when, where and how they are seeking it.”

In addition to the Westwood site, Ministry is reviewing plans for a number of neighborhood clinics to be located in Wausau, Weston/Schofield and Merrill. Final details are being developed and will be released in the coming weeks and months. Planning is also underway for the expansion of Ministry Saint Clare’s Hospital to bring new services to central Wisconsin as Ministry Health Care focuses efforts along the I-39 corridor of the state.
