Dr. Padgett and Don’s Story
In his mid-70s, Don Wallace loved to walk the rolling green and swing from hole to hole with his buddies. The game guaranteed exercise, vitamin D and camaraderie. But two years ago, he began to notice discomfort. Pain in Don’s left hip started to throw him off his game. As the aches increased, he resorted to using a cart to travel the course. The avid golfer will tell you that it just wasn’t the same.
“I played to the point where I could no longer get in and out of the cart,” the Rhinelander resident says. “It was just as bad as walking.”
Don knew he had to do something when he couldn’t get around the house without a cane or in and out of his delivery truck at work. So he made an appointment to see Dr. William Padgett, a surgeon at Ministry’s Northland Orthopedic and Sports Medicine who replaced his right hip in 2002. A decade later, he knew exactly what to expect and trusted Dr. Padgett to fix his other hip. He had surgery in September 2013.
“Dr. Padgett took good care of me,” Don says. “Every two years, he’d call me in to look at my (right) hip. With my left hip, I had no problem. He said I’m good to go!”
Now 78, Don feels good as new. This spring, he’ll get back in the swing of things and return to the fairway.
