A smooth stroke of color puts the finishing touch on her latest gift. She places the hand-painted decoration in the pile with the rest, each one to be given to a different grandchild. Her name is Joan and she is a cancer survivor.
Joan Schieffer went sent to Ministry Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield after a growth was spotted during a routine physical. Joan underwent chemotherapy and radiation along with brachytherapy to remove the cancerous tissue. The oncology team at Ministry made Joan feel safe and well cared for throughout the process. Although she experienced some nausea, Joan was never in pain during treatment. About three weeks after her radiation treatment ended, Joan’s energy increased and she started feeling back to normal.
Now, cancer-free and in good health, Joan is more than happy to spend her time retired painting decorative dishtowels as gifts for her many grandchildren. She is grateful to be able to be a part of their lives and just as grateful for the staff at Ministry for being a part of hers.
