Scabies is caused by a tiny mite that burrows into the skin and causes an extremely itchy skin condition. These mites are attracted to warmth and can be transferred through person-to-person contact. Symptoms of the condition include red bumps, tiny bites or pimples and usually appear on warmer sites on the skin.
Scabies can usually be treated fairly quickly using a variety of topical solutions or an oral medicine called ivermectin. The key to successful treatment is to treat the entire body, all family members, and to wash all bedding and clothing to ensure any and all mites have been destroyed.
