Level II Trauma Center

Ministry Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield has received American College of Surgeons’ Level II Trauma verification as an Adult and Pediatric Trauma Center - the ONLY trauma center in the region to achieve that designation. It is acknowledged as a leader in the dedication to research and education and the treatment of traumatic injuries. National studies have shown that hospitals that obtain trauma center verification demonstrate better patient outcomes (lower death rates and complications) from complex traumatic injuries and other life-threatening conditions.

Our multidisciplinary team approach to trauma care begins with our partners throughout northern and central Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The emergency response team, community hospital emergency departments, and Spirit Medical Transportation Services provide skillful handling and expert decision making. These are the first steps toward successful patient outcomes.

Trauma physicians manage trauma patients throughout their hospitalization. Other staff specially trained in trauma – RNs, Respiratory Therapists, PT / OT, Physician Assistants, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Social Workers, Case Managers, Dietitians, and Pharmacists – assist in providing patients with high-quality, compassionate, multidisciplinary care throughout the continuum of their stay.

As a Level II Trauma Center, Ministry Saint Joseph’s Hospital differs from Level III and IV centers in that they ensure 24-hour availability of surgeons, anesthesiologists, physician specialists, and trauma nurses, plus immediate access to dedicated medical equipment and operating room facilities.
