For their optimal comfort, patients and families are supported in their own homes whenever possible. For those times when it is not possible for end-of-life care to be provided at home, Ministry Home Care has alternative homes specifically designed to meet the residential needs of individuals receiving hospice care.
We recently moved into our new House of the Dove, a beautiful facility constructed to provide care for all levels of hospice patients - Residential, Acute and Respite. With 12 patient suites, the new home is able to meet the broader needs of people in the region.
Full Hospice Team Support
The warm, friendly environment of the hospice home provides 24 hour care by professional staff and specially-trained volunteers. Hospice care is provided just as it would be in the patient's own home, addressing the medical, emotional and spiritual needs with the expertise of the entire interdisciplinary hospice team.
Each patient suite is furnished with a bed, linens, recliner, over-bed table, closet, storage cabinet, table & chairs, couch, telephone, small refrigerator , microwave, television and DVD/VCR player. In addition, each suite has a private patio. Residents are encouraged to bring personal items from home to make their private room as home-like as possible.
Common living areas provide comfortable spaces for family members and patients to spend time. House of the Dove has a great room with fireplace and television, dining area, library, chapel, play area for children, spa room with whirlpool, beautician services, sun rooms in each wing, and outdoor seating areas surrounded by beautiful gardens.
Meals are provided in the dining room or in the patient's suite, and snacks are also available. Breakfasts are made to order, and other meals are provided by Ministry Saint Joseph's Hospital.
Family members and guests are welcome to visit at all times. Because oftentimes, family members choose to stay near the patient, each spacious suite has a couch which is suitable for sleeping.
Three Levels of Care
At this facility, we provide three levels of hospice care - Residential, Acute and Respite:
- Residential hospice care is for individuals who cannot or do not wish to stay at home.
- Acute hospice care is for individuals with complex pain or symptoms that cannot be managed at home. They are admitted so we can provide 24-hour care while we get their symptoms under control, and then they return home.
- Respite hospice care allows patients to stay at House of the Dove while their families take a short break from the challenges of care giving.
