National Teleconference to Broadcast Locally
Cancer and End-of-Life Care
Each year the Hospice Foundation of America (HFA) presents a nationally recognized distance learning program, live via satellite and webcast, to more than 125,000 people in 2,000 communities. For more than a decade, this annual educational program has been instrumental in educating health care professionals and families on issues affecting end-of-life care. The program provides an opportunity for a wide variety of professionals to share and exchange ideas and obtain continuing education credits.
This year, HFA’s 17th Annual National Bereavement Teleconference focuses on “Cancer & End-of-Life Care.” Featuring a host of distinguished panelists including Yvette Colón, PhD, MSW, Director of Education & Support at American Pain Foundation, Richard Payne, MD, Director of the Duke Institute on Care at the End of Life, and several others, the program will be broadcast Wednesday, March 24, 2010, 12:15-3:30pm at locations throughout central Wisconsin.
This distinguished panel of ethicists, leaders and hospice experts will examine care options related to cancer diagnoses as well as loss and grief reactions for patients, families and professional caregivers. The teleconference will also examine psychosocial aspects of cancer, pain management, and ethical issues related to the disease. A local panel of experts will lead a discussion following the national broadcast.
“Every year, Ministry Home Care proudly partners with our colleagues to host this important telecast,” stated Chris Schmelling, bereavement coordinator for Ministry Home Care. “I have no doubt this year’s topic will touch many, many people in our community.”
