Volunteer Training in St. Germain
Neighbors helping Neighbors at End of Life
Hospice Volunteer training to be held in St. Germain
Dr. Kate Hospice is currently looking to expand the number of volunteers available throughout our service area, but especially for those Hospice patients in Eagle River, St. Germain and the surrounding communities. A five week training will be held at the St. Germain Community Center (545 State Highway 155) on Thursday mornings from 9 a.m. – noon beginning Thursday, April 21. Anyone is welcome to join these classes. No commitment to volunteering is made until the course work has been completed.
Dr. Kate Hospice has been serving the northwoods for just over 30 years. From the beginning, Eagle River, St. Germain and the surrounding communities have been an important part of our service area. Our commitment is to help people remain in their own homes for as long as possible, often remaining there until they die. When remaining at home is not possible or desired, the hospice team provides support to individuals in area care facilities as well. Our hospice team offers support, guidance and expertise in end of life care to help patients and their families live their final weeks and days as they choose.
An essential component of our team are the volunteers. A five week training is provided which covers topics such as hospice philosophy, death and dying issues, communication skills, families, pain and symptom management, spirituality, grief and more. These classes are open to anyone with an interest in learning more about hospice and end of life care. For those who choose, after completing these courses and application process, they are then ready to be assigned to a patient and family to provide support. Services provided vary depending on individual patient and family needs, but often includes providing emotional support and socialization for the patient as well time of respite for family caregivers.
If you have an interest in exploring hospice and the role of volunteers in the program, please contact Randi Danner at 800.234.3542 by April 13. Consider joining the dedicated group of volunteers who serve hospice patients and their families in the northwoods and be ready to serve those in need.
