OLVH to offer educational program, forms for advance directives
Our Lady of Victory Hospital, along with other national, state and community organizations, is participating in a campaign to highlight the importance of advance healthcare decision-making—an effort that has culminated in the formal designation of April 16, 2010 as National Healthcare Decisions Day. As a participating organization, OLVH will provide information and tools for the public to talk about their wishes with family, friends and healthcare providers, and execute written advance directives (healthcare power of attorney and living will) in accordance with Wisconsin law.
On April 16, OLVH invites the public to learn more about advance directives and to pick up free information about advance care planning and advance directive forms. Lori Begley, Director of Social Services at OLVH, will present a program titled “Advance Care Planning: Your Decisions Matter” from 1-2 p.m. in the hospital’s 2nd floor conference room. The event is free and open to the public, and pre-registration is not required. Join us for information and refreshments.
“We hope that as a result of this effort, many more people in our community will have thoughtful conversations about their healthcare decisions,” said Cindy Eichman, president of OLVH. “We want to make it easy for people to complete the necessary forms for advance directives to make their wishes known.”
“It is so important for everyone to state their wishes,” says Lori Begley. “When you have an advance directive, your healthcare providers and facilities understand what you want, and are better equipped to honor your plan.”
