OLVH retail pharmacy changes hours as of January 5
The Our Lady of Victory Hospital retail pharmacy will be reducing their hours effective January 5, 2009. New hours will be Monday – Friday, 12:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. According to Cindy Eichman, president of OLVH, “This is necessary due to our inability to recruit a new pharmacist to fill the vacancy that occurred earlier this fall. Pharmacist vacancies are being experienced throughout the state and we have been actively recruiting, but have not been successful. We feel very fortunate to have Dan Johnson, R.Ph., continuing his leadership and service in both our hospital and retail service line, however licensing and regulatory issues do not allow for a single pharmacist to work in both a hospital and retail pharmacy at the same time.”
During the next 90 days OLVH will determine if a larger pharmacy might be interested in taking over the ownership of the local retail operations, or if this reduction in services will need to be long term. Cindy says that the hospital will also look into any new technologies that could be incorporated for after-hours access to immediate prescriptions needed.
Cindy indicated that many of the services the pharmacy offers will not change. “We will continue to offer the refill prescription telephone service, home delivery of prescriptions, mail delivery of prescriptions, and the early prescription drop-off box located outside the pharmacy.”
Cindy added, “We know this will be a challenge for our clinic patients and community members. Many rural communities have either lost their retail pharmacy access or seen similar reduced hours due to pharmacist vacancies. We will continue to work on developing a plan to keep these services available and thank the community for their patience and understanding.”
