Our Lady of Victory Hospital and Victory Medical Group plan for expanded services in Thorp

October 21, 2008

Marshfield Clinic recently announced the departure of physicians Joseph M. Alisky, M.D., Ph. D., and Elena L. Chertkova, M.D., and the closing of the Marshfield Clinic-Thorp Center. Both physicians, who are relocating to Denver, were on staff at Our Lady of Victory Hospital.

“We are going to miss Dr. Alisky and Dr. Chertkova, they were excellent clinicians and very active on the hospital medical staff,” says Cindy Eichman, president of OLVH and Victory Medical Group. “The good news is that we believe we will be successful in recruiting physician coverage to expand our Victory Medical Group services in Thorp. In fact, we already have Dr. Bill Hopkins returning to the area December 1 to work with Peter Gintner, P.A.-C in our Thorp Clinic.”

Bill Hopkins, MD, is a family practice physician who worked many years in the Owen/Withee area and is returning with his wife, Mary to be closer to his children and grandchildren. Family doctors are trained in all areas of medicine. They can diagnose and treat the full range of problems. Dr. Hopkins received his medical degree from George Washington University, completed his residency at the University of Minnesota Hospitals in Minneapolis, and is Board Certified in Family Practice. According to Cindy, “we have had many patients share how excited they are that he is returning to the area and the rest of the hospital medical staff are looking forward to working with him.”

Cindy adds, “We are starting immediately to plan for changes for our Thorp Clinic – we will expand clinic services to the main level and add our own arrangements for ancillary departments, such as lab and radiology, for the convenience of our patients in the Thorp area.

“I also want to inform community members in the Thorp area that Dr. Charles Wirtz, the internal medicine provider in our Owen Clinic, will be available to all Dr. Alisky's nursing home patients for continuity of care. We are looking forward to his ability to make nursing home rounds both at Oakbrook and Clark County Health Care every Tuesday. Dr. Wirtz has a special interest in health care needs for the elderly in addition to his primary care practice.”

If patients need to find a new provider, or if they have questions, they’re encouraged to call the Victory Medical Group Clinic Manager, Cindy Lindgren at (715) 644-6238.
