Note from Traci:

I have received the messages from many of you about posting the topics for the events in advance. I completely understand the you may have to make arrangements for work, child care, or other situations in order to attend. The MCWR is about helping you-- therefore, the topics are unknown even to me until the week they are published in the newsletter. My staff and I listen to you, the participants, and hear the need, then we format and seek out experts for classes/workshops/exercise based on that need. It was never the intent to prohibit some of you from attending and I do apologize if you felt that way. This program is truly here for you and I am more than willing to take comments and suggestions to improve this program—just pass them my way, any day, any time. Keep driving on to become the change you want!

Summary

Tuesday Night's Presentation: Tuesday Night’s Presentation: Dearing Greatly with Sterling & Natalie Wall, UW-Stevens Point. See the slides here.

On Tuesday we welcomed Sterling Wall and his wife who emphasized how we are most successful completing goals when we have a support group. Their presentation, “Nobody does it alone” began with an introduction to the Family Systems Theory. We were taught that the theory is powerful and very hard to change. A family systems theory would be an idea or tradition that has been passed down a family from generation to generation. Sterling taught us to break away from the system and create our own ideas or traditions. A question that was raised was, “how do we change a system that has been done the same way for so long?” The key principle to this is to find that one person that is going to help you change the system; the second principle is to get rid of all your excuses. Break the barriers that your excuses make for you and don’t let them impede what you are capable of. But with all of this it all comes down to really wanting to change. “If you want something you’ve never had, you must be willing to do something you’ve never done.” –Thomas Jefferson
