Summary

Tuesday Night's Presentations: Going Paleo

Scott Keyser from Crossfit in Steven's Point came to talk to us as well as two Paleo veterans, Heather and John. As John described it, it isn't necessarily a diet, it is a lifestyle change. Paleo involves a diet of clean eating; fresh foods that are composed of vitamins and minerals, nutrient dense foods. Paleo also involves the understanding of where your food is from, what you eat also includes what your food is eating. Focus on the local and organic foods that your area supplies, food quality is important. Paleo isn't just beneficial for your waistline but it can also help your body maintain a health metabolism and reduce inflammation within the body. Foods that are allowed include different proteins (meats, eggs), some fruit (ones low in sugar), healthy fats and oils, vegetables, little starch and nuts and seeds. Do not eat refined sugars, grains, diary, legumes (beans), and processed sugars. The important thing to remember about the foods you can eat is that fats are important! Eating the right fats can give you energy and eating the right ones can be healthier for you than carbohydrates. See the slides here.
