“Choosing an Auxilian of the Year is like an employer trying to decide which one of her employees should get the Christmas bonus!
Saint Elizabeth’s Auxiliary has so many deserving members. Some do their jobs well, year after year, having found their passion. Some work on a project until it is finished and then move on to the next challenge. Our Auxilian of the Year jumps in with both feet and does everything asked of her – and more. She has yet to clean bird cages, but if asked nicely…who knows?
Kay Hickey, our Auxilian of 2011, is everywhere! She has been seen giving directions at the Guest Services desk; taking grateful residents to enjoy Music Under the Bridge; working shifts before, during, and after the Holiday Bazaar; assisting with TGIF parties; helping with the annual calendar mailings; being available at a moments notice to fill a desperate need; sharing the sorrow of a resident who has just lost a spouse or the joy of one who has just learned her family is coming; helping residents – four mornings a week – make food choices from the daily menu.
Kay racks up over thirty volunteer hours each month --not bad for a rookie who has been an Auxilian since February 2010. As if her plate isn’t full enough, Kay is a very active community volunteer – serving at Faith Lutheran Church, Kellogg American Legion and Auxiliary, Mayo Hospice, The Common Closet, and the school’s Book Buddy program. In all she does, Kay offers herself with joy in her heart and a smile on her face.”
Following the tribute, a plaque and gift were presented to her by Geri Tibor, president and Dutch Johnson, vice-president.
