This program is an intensive weight management program appropriate for individuals who want to lose anywhere from 10 to more than 100 pounds. The program offers the option of rapid weight loss under medical supervision, as well as a more moderate diet option. Since research shows that meal replacements (portion-controlled, calorie restricted meals) produce substantially greater weight loss and weight loss maintenance than standard diets, both program options use nutritionally complete weight loss foods as the basis of the diet.
Participants in the program may receive a complete medical screening prior to starting the diet, with medical supervision provided as necessary. According to Dr. Peggy Abel, Medical Director of the Program, the emphasis is on teaching new lifestyle skills and healthier behaviors. After weight loss, participants join an extensive maintenance program, which focuses on simple strategies for long-term weight management.
