Technology Upgrade Aims to Improve Patient Experience at Ministry Medical Group Clinics

Ministry Medical Group, part of Ascension, is partnering with athenahealth to launch a cloud-based physician practice management and patient communications software system. 

The upgrade, which began in mid-February, touches and will improve the management of each location in everything from appointment scheduling to billing and payment processing. 

“This technology upgrade will help our patients take a more active role in managing their care,” said Kathy Pfantz, Primary Care manager at Ministry Medical Group, Tomahawk. “It will also provide our associates with streamlined, efficient processes to deliver person-centered care.”

Continued improvements in patient safety and identity theft prevention are another added bonus of the new system. As a result, each Ministry Medical Group patient will be required to provide their insurance information and driver’s license or other approved identification card at their next clinic visit. 

“This allows us to attach the information and a photo image of the license or ID card to each registration chart so no one else can pretend to be another registered patient,” added Pfantz “We appreciate the patience of those coming to the clinic during this time of transition and want people to know that wait times will improve as we continue to learn this new system.”

The new clinic billing system also introduces individual statements for each family member which will continue to be mailed to the guarantor for the account. Services provided prior to February 14, 2017, will continue to appear on a separate statement until the balance is zero. A separate statement will be mailed for any services billed by the hospital. 

Bills from other healthcare providers who have provided services to patients for services like laboratory radiology services, pathologists or other specialists are not part of this technology upgrade. Ministry Medical Group patients will also benefit from a new and improved online patient portal. 

The online patient portal, located at, allows patients to easily and safely communicate with clinic locations at any time using a secure password.  The online patient portal is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from the comfort and privacy of your home or office, saving time with educational information to keep your family healthy and safe. 

“The portal allows you to view personal health information, view your new clinic billing system statements and balance, make secure credit card payments, view and schedule appointments, retrieve test results, request prescriptions and refills, and communicate with your doctor by sending and receiving secure messages,” said Pfantz.
