PREREQUISITES

Due to recent changes in the guidelines from our accrediting body, the Joint Review Commission on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT), St. Joseph's Hospital-School of Radiography will now require specific prerequisites in general education to be completed by August 31 of the first year of study. Each student is required to meet the minimum academic criteria of 15 general education credits outlined by the School. The subject matter that MUST be included in these prerequisites include:

  • Two 3-credit courses in Mathematics/Logical Reasoning
  • Two 3-credit courses in Written/Oral Communications
  • One 3-credit course in the Natural Sciences

Classes taken at a four-year college must award the student a minimum of 3-credits upon successful completion of the course, be categorized as a 100 level class or higher, and fall into comparable class categories as stated above. College Algebra is also an acceptable choice for filling the prerequisite criteria.

An applicant with questions pertaining to the acceptability of his or her classes fulfilling the prerequisite requirements are strongly encouraged to contact the School faculty. An applicant accepted into the program must provide documentation that he or she meets the requirements set forth by the School on/before August 31 of the year that he or she would begin the program. Documentation acceptable in providing this information includes official transcripts from the institution where the courses were completed.

High School Advanced Placement classes may apply toward the general education prerequisites outlined above. An applicant completing Advance Placement testing must submit his or her test scores in for review by the School faculty.

Individuals not meeting the prerequisite criteria upon acceptance to the program will be placed on a probationary acceptance status. An applicant placed on probationary acceptance status must provide documentation of successful completion of the prerequisite classes on or before August 31 of the year that he or she is accepted. Failure to provide documentation of successful completion of the prerequisite classes by the deadline will result in dismissal from the program due to ineligibility.

Due to the changes in prerequisite requirements the application deadline will be November 1 of each year.
