Established in 1988, the Ministry Saint Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing Commemorative Scholarship Fund assists employees financially in completing nursing degree course work. Specifically, scholarship funds are targeted at supporting course work in the Associate, Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctoral levels of nursing education. The scholarship's purpose is to reflect the values of Ministry Saint Joseph's Hospital, by distinguishing those individuals who:
Annually, several scholarships of various amounts will be awarded to selected candidates. The scholarships may be used for tuition, books, fees, or material/laboratory charges.
The following eligibility criteria are required for consideration as a scholarship candidate:
A minimum of one year continuous employment at Ministry Saint Joseph's Hospital, including full-time, part-time, and casual.
Documented acceptance and either completion or enrollment in at least one core nursing course in an Associate, Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctorate degree nursing program. Employees on a waiting list to enroll in a core nursing course are not eligible.
Individuals may not receive the School of Nursing Commemorative Scholarship in consecutive years.
Individuals must have a minimum cumulative GPA of B (3.0 on a 4.0 scale).
Applicant obtains a Ministry Saint Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing Commemorative Scholarship Application Form (Appendix A) from Organization Development & Learning, 1 West. The completed application including attachments is returned by August 1 to Organization Development & Learning, 1 West. Any applications, including attachments received after August 1 are ineligible.
A Scholarship Review Committee will review all eligible applications and determine scholarship recipients.
The Director of Organization Development & Learning will chair this committee. Other committee members include: the Vice President of Human Resources, the Vice President of Patient Care Services, one Nurse Manager and two staff RNs (to be appointed by the Vice President of Patient Care Services).
The Scholarship Review Committee will meet by August 15, and review all candidate applications. The committee will award scholarships based on:
The applicant meeting the eligibility criteria stated in the policy;
Review of the applicant's written essay, supervisory letter of recommendation, and annual dialogue.
The Scholarship Review Committee Chair will inform all candidates of the committee's decision by September 1. The scholarship awards will be paid directly to the recipient by September 15.
