Nursing Units

Cardiology (Medical & Surgical)

40 beds. Surgical cardiology: pacemakers, implantable defibrillators, open heart surgicals. Medical cardiology: unstable angina, MI, heart rhythm disturbances, PTCA, CHF, cardiac cath.


Surgical/Abdominal/ENT

50 beds. Otolaryngology/ENT, GI surgery, colo-rectal surgery, vascular surgery, thoracic surgery, ophthalmology surgery, small bowel obstruction and ileus. Occasional gynecologic and urology surgery.


Neurology

34 beds. Stroke, seizures, M.S., Parkinson's Disease, Neurosurgery (brain and back), orthopedic spine surgery, trauma.


General Medical

48 beds. General internal medicine, endocrinology, gastroenterology, nephrology, infectious disease patients, rheumatology, pulmonary.


Surgical/Orthopedics

48 beds. Orthopedics, plastic surgery, oral surgery, urology surgery, gynecologic surgery, spine, skin, urology medical. Occasional vascular, GI, ophthalmology, small bowel obstruction and ileus patients.


Oncology/Hematology

36 beds: Oncology/hematology: general medical patient population includes tumors (i.e. lung, prostate), blood malignancies (i.e. leukemia, multiple myeloma), DVT, anemia, malignant and non-malignant pain, dementia, etc. Typical treatment modalities include chemotherapy, bracytherapy, and human progenitor cell transplants. Outpatient Unit, 5 chairs: blood transfusion and IV infusion (includes antibiotics and chemotherapy).


CCU/Medical ICU

16 beds. MI/thrombolytic patients, CHF, cardiogenic shock, arrhythmias, acute respiratory failure, pneumonia, GI bleed, renal, sepsis, other acute medical conditions requiring intensive care.


ICU-Adult

24 beds. Open heart recovery, neurosurgery, trauma, general surgery, continuous renal replacement therapy.

Medical Transportation Service, ( Spirit of Marshfield ) air ( helicopter ) and ground ambulance for critical care and advanced life support patients of all ages. Patient populations typically include cardiac, trauma, neonatal and pediatrics.


Rehabilitation Center

21 beds. Multidisciplinary rehab following stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury, joint replacements, amputations, prolonged hospitalization, multiple trauma, etc. Works as a team of nursing staff (RN, NA, HUC), PT, OT, Speech, TR, MDs, SW, DPN, etc. to meet the needs of this patient population.


Mental Health Unit

13 beds. Voluntary admissions of patients suffering from psychiatric and mental health crises. Includes affective and psychotic disorders, and behavioral problems associated with dementia.


Birth Center

24 beds. Antepartum, labor/delivery, postpartum and newborn nursery patients. Care for both low-risk as well as level III high-risk obstetric patients. Tertiary care center.


Pediatrics

24 beds. Oncology (medical, surgical, chemotherapy), Ortho, GI (medical and surgical), ENT, oral surgeries, neurology (medical and surgical), respiratory illnesses/infectious disease, psych/social/emotional (failure to thrive, abuse), cardiac, renal, endocrine, derm, outpatient transfusions.


PICU

8 beds. Has the sicker patient in all the above categories. Deep sedation procedures are routinely performed in the PICU (outpatients).


NICU

24 beds. Level III NICU serving all of northcentral Wisconsin and the U.P. of Michigan. Care for sick or premature infants under 1 month of age. Patient types include a wide range of medical and surgical problems. Also operate a neonatal transport service in conjunction with the Spirit of Marshfield. Previous experience is desired, though new graduates may apply.


Outpatient Services Area (OPS)

Admission of all surgical patients, procedure patients to include coronary arteriograms, mylograms, ERCP, post-op care for procedure and surgical patients. Procedures performed in area bronchoscopy, TEEs.


Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)

Recovery of all surgical patients, general surgery, ortho, neuro, cardiac-open heart, thoracic, pediatrics, EENT, recovery of ICU patients.


Operating Room

19 rooms. Surgical department provides 24-hour care to patients of all ages. Specialty services provided: cardiovascular, thoracic, general gynecologic, urology, peripheral vascular, pediatrics, orthopedics, ENT, oral, eye, neurosurgery, and plastics. Perform over 8,000 surgical procedures per year, including over 650 heart procedures.


Hemodialysis-Outpatient Unit

12 chairs. Three-patient shifts on Monday/Wednesday/Friday and 2-patient shifts on Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday. Inpatient Unit: four patient stations, 7 days a week with on-call staff.


Self Care Dialysis Unit

Provides training to patients, families and nursing facilities to do home dialysis. Includes peritonela dialysis and home hemodialysis, both conventional and daily/nocturnal. Serve the age span of neonate to geriatric patients. 24/7 on-call provided.


Pediatric Dialysis Services

Inpatient and outpatient services include hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis and CRRT (continuous renal replacment threrapy). Full support of staff provides 24-hour coverage for children of all ages.


Palliative Care

11 beds. Comprehensive management of physical, psychological and spiritual care by a multidisciplinary team. Adult patients have and advanced, progressive disease no longer responsive to curative care. Focus on symptom management and quality of life.


Float Pool

Comprises four unit clusters:

  • Med/Surg - combination of 3-6 of the adult med/surg units
  • Critical Care - ICU and CCU
  • Pediatrics - PICU, pediatrics, NICU
  • Specialty Care - OB, including PP and NBN, psych, rehab, palliative care
