House of the Dove Campaign

Why a new House of the Dove is needed.

In 1982, the Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother realized the overwhelming need for quality end-of-life care for residents of our community. To address this issue, Sister Rita Adlkofer, with the strong support of our local physicians, started providing hospice care through a volunteer program. The program expanded and in 1989, the Hospital remodeled the Sister’s former convent into House of the Dove, which became the first hospice home in the state of Wisconsin.

Why is this important to our community?

Increased demand for hospice services and the aging of this much-loved Home call for us to provide an expanded, more modern facility for individuals with terminal illnesses here in central Wisconsin. The current House has only room for eight residents, residential care only and cannot assist those with 24-hour nursing needs.

Did you know?

People stay at House of the Dove for a variety of reasons—they may not have a caregiver at home, their spouse or caregiver is unable to provide the care they need, or they choose not to die in their home.

Our Vision

Together, Saint Joseph’s Hospital, Ministry Home Care and the caring people of Marshfield and the surrounding communities will build a new House of the Dove that will continue to provide professional and compassionate care to people with terminal illnesses, with even greater comfort, space and more advanced care technology.

The new hospice home will feature:

  • Twelve patient rooms, including space for hospice patients needing acute (hospitalized) care, as well as short term respite care.
  • Larger patient rooms with individual bathrooms.
  • Two Sunrooms at the end of each patient wing.
  • A Children’s Area so visiting kids can be kids.
  • A Chapel to provide a place for spiritual reflection.
  • A large Kitchen area so breakfast can be cooked for our patients and families.

Our Community Commitment

As a part of our commitment to our communities, Saint Joseph’s Hospital and Ministry Health Care provide care to anyone who is medically eligible, regardless of their ability to pay. We rely on the generosity of individuals, groups and businesses in the community to support this important mission.
