Carter Levi, newborn son of Katie and Andrew Gudgeon of Marshfield, may not yet know what a cow is, much less that June is Dairy Month, but his birth served as a little celebration of both thanks to the Wood County Junior Holstein Association.
The group, consisting of students from fifth grade through high school, decided to celebrate June Dairy Month by donating a commemorative basket (or in this case a pail) to the first baby born in June at the Birth Center of Ministry Saint Joseph’s Hospital.
That was Carter, born at 5:06 a.m. on June 1. The pail’s contents included dairy-related items, such as stuffed and plastic cows, books, a blanket, backpack, balloons and treats. Carter joins two brothers, Ian, 3, and Lucas, 7.
