First Grade Class Donates Puppets to Hospital Patients
Mrs. Thomasina Leafgren’s First Grade Class at Jefferson School donated puppets for children at Saint Michael’s Hospital.
The puppets were part of an Education Enrichment Mini Grant Mrs. Leafgren received from the Stevens Point School District. The mini grant is awarded to teachers for projects that enhance and stimulate the creative and cognitive abilities of children.
The goal of the project was to provide first grade students at Jefferson School the opportunity to create a puppet and use their puppet throughout the curriculum as well as gain experience from involvement with community project. The first graders brainstormed many ideas and came up with making puppets for children at Saint Michael’s Hospital.
“I have a very kind and caring group of children,” stated Mrs. Leafgen of her first graders. “The children were so excited to bring the puppets to the hospital; it was an experience they won’t soon forget.”
