Hospital Celebrates 3 Years of Hotel-Style Meal Service

On Monday, August 27, 2007 at 6:38 am, the first room service meal was delivered at Ministry Saint Michael’s Hospital with the goal of patients being able to choose what they want to eat, at the time they are ready to eat.

Since then tens of thousands of hotel-style meals have been served and patient satisfaction scores continue to rise.

“My personal thanks to Nutrition Services staff for their hard work over the past three years in making Room Service a huge success,” said Brant Bergeron, Director of Hospitality Services.

Ministry Saint Michael’s Hospital replaced their tray line food service with a patient meal delivery concept modeled after “hotel-style” room service three years ago and have added several other perks for their patients including a special “celebration meal” for new moms in their Women & Infants Center (WIC).

From a restaurant style menu in their room, patients, family members make meal selections, dial the Room Service call center and have their meal delivered to their room within 45 minutes following the call.

A patient had this to say in a recent email sent to hospital leaders:

“I can’t express my thanks enough to the Nutrition Services staff and everyone involved with making room service a reality at [Ministry] Saint Michael’s Hospital. Me and my family have done nothing but sing the praises of Saint Mike’s to other family members and friends regarding room service and the hospital’s focus on the needs of the patient.”
