Saint Michael’s Foundation Scholarships

Saint Michael’s Foundation will be awarding scholarships for the 2011-2012 academic year to individuals pursuing a degree in a health care field.

Recipients of all scholarships will be chosen based on scholastic achievement, extracurricular activities, community involvement, volunteer service, strong career motivation and personal recommendations. Applications must be postmarked by March 1, 2011. Recipients will be notified in May.

The Ministry Saint Michael’s Medical Staff Scholarship was established in March of 2009 by the Medical Staff at Ministry Saint Michael’s Hospital. The scholarship will award one $1,000 post secondary education scholarship for the 2011-2012 academic year to a student living in Portage County or the surrounding counties currently attending an accredited technical, undergraduate, graduate or doctoral program in a health care field. The academic program must require a minimum of two years of post-secondary education. The recipient must have completed at least one year of study by June 15, 2011

In 1998, the family of Richard A. Eckberg, a highly respected Rice Medical Center (now named Ministry Medical Group) surgeon established the Richard A. Eckberg Memorial Scholarship with Saint Michael’s Foundation. Dr. Eckberg, who served on Ministry Saint Michael’s Hospital staff for 22 years, was a great asset to our community, and this scholarship is a fitting tribute to his commitment to health care education.

The Richard A. Eckberg Memorial Scholarship will award one $1,000 post secondary education scholarship for the 2011-2012 academic year to a Portage County resident who is pursuing a degree in a clinical health care field, and is currently attending an accredited technical or undergraduate school. The recipient must have completed at least one year of study by June 15, 2011 and been accepted into the institution’s professional school of study. The recipient must be pursuing their first post secondary degree. The education program required for degree completion must be at least two years in length.
