His little girl was born at Ministry Saint Michael’s Hospital on a cold December day in 1985. Her dad remembers the moment he first held his baby girl in his arms, shortly after she was born. He remembers thinking that everything was right in the world.
His baby girl passed away at the age of 28 from a horrendous, eleven month battle from leukemia. It was a beautiful life cut way too short for his only child. Nothing made sense and certainly, nothing seemed right in his world any longer.
Through his darkest hours and personal tragedy of losing his only child, he wanted to provide others with the gift of compassion and comfort that his daughter, Heidi, had for others. Heidi’s dad contacted Saint Michael’s Foundation with his intentions of wanting to direct Heidi’s memorial gifts from friends and family to the Greatest Need Fund at Saint Michael’s Foundation, to help those in need. He wanted to leave a legacy for his daughter who cared so deeply for others.
Saint Michael’s Foundation has the privilege to work with parents, like Heidi’s dad, in sometimes the saddest and most vulnerable times of their life. We listen, we learn and sometimes, we cry with them. We humbly sit beside them and work together to establish the right fit for a memorial fund or to leave a legacy that would best represent their memory of their loved one.
We also have the privilege to work with philanthropic donors who want to leave a legacy while they are still living – so they can see the fruits of their philanthropy. Either way, Saint Michael’s Foundation provides a philanthropic avenue for members of our community to support the cause they are most passionate about.
For 25 years, Saint Michael’s Foundation has helped to provide compassionate and quality healthcare to our community. We have helped to serve those in our community who are vulnerable and poor; to allow children or adults access to dental care through Ministry Dental Clinic, medication assistance through the Medication Assistance Program, mammograms through the Angel Fund, or end-of-life care assistance through Ministry Home Care – Hospice.
We work with generous individuals, families and companies each week who care. They care for others in their community and they want to help care for them through providing them with compassionate healthcare – whether they are just starting their life at Ministry Saint Michael’s Hospital, or are in need in the middle of their life due to an unfortunate situation, or they are at the end of their life.
If you are interested in discussing how to leave a legacy or help others in need of quality in our community, please contact me at Saint Michael’s Foundation. I’m happy to sit with you and listen to how you would like to make a difference.
