Saint Michael’s Hospital Drop-In Child Care Provided 2,889 Hours of Child Care in 2009
The Drop-In Child Care program at Saint Michael’s Hospital provided care for over 2,166 children, totaling 2,889 hours of child care in 2009. In 2008 the child care center provided care for over 1970 children.
Through a partnership with the YMCA, Saint Michael’s Hospital and Ministry Medical Group provide drop-in child care for the children of their patients and visitors. The program began in 2005 and was designed to provide a safe and secure environment where children are able to play with toys and other children under the care of trained YMCA staff while guardians and parents attend medical appointments.
The service is available for infants and children up to 11 years of age Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 11:30 am and 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. There is a limit of 16 children at any one time and is run on a first come, first served basis – no appointment necessary. Drop-in Child Care is located on the first floor at Saint Michael’s Hospital.
“Our partnership with the YMCA is another example of putting our patients first,” said Brant Bergeron, Director of Hospitality Services. “In response to surveys of parents last year, child care hours were expanded by 20% and afternoon hours were added to the existing morning schedule. I encourage families to use the child care services when visiting the hospital or clinic in 2010.”
