UWSP Men's Hockey Team Puts A Check to Cancer
The final numbers are in and the first “Put a Check to Cancer Night,” on Saturday, December 12 at K.B. Willett Arena in Stevens Point not only resulted in a Pointer victory on the ice, but also raised $3,600 to benefit cancer patients served by Ministry Health Care’s Saint Michael’s Hospital.
“We are thrilled with the generous support of the UWSP Men’s Hockey program and their dedicated fans to support local cancer patients,” said Kristin Duckart, Saint Michael’s Foundation Director. “Their support will truly make a difference to those battling cancer and the many needs that come with treatment and support."
A capacity crowd of more than 1,500 participated in a “Black Out” for the event with the team wearing special game jersey’s which were auctioned off along with the sale of pink roses and the donation of the proceeds from the night’s 50/50 raffle benefiting the Cancer Services Fund of Saint Michael’s Foundation.
“This was an exciting event for our team and fans to support,” said UWSP Men’s Hockey Coach Wil Nichol. “With the tremendous support of Ministry Health Care, Team Schierl Companies, Scaffidi Motors and The Point After, we hope we have established the foundation for what will become a highlight of our schedule each year.”
