Health Care Career Scholarships

SCHOLARSHIP AVAILABILITY INFORMATION

 

SAINT MICHAEL’S FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS

Saint Michael’s Foundation will be awarding $9,000 (nine $1,000) in scholarships for the 2010-2011 academic year to individuals pursuing a degree in a health care field.

There are four $1,000 scholarships available for students who live in Portage and the surrounding counties currently attending an accredited technical, undergraduate, graduate or doctoral program in a health care field.  The academic program must require a minimum of two years of post-secondary education. 

Recipients of Saint Michael’s Foundation Scholarships will be chosen based on scholastic achievement, extracurricular activities, community involvement, volunteer service, strong career motivation and personal recommendations. Applications must be postmarked by March 1, 2010.  Recipients will be notified in April.

 

SAINT MICHAEL’S HOSPITAL MEDICAL STAFF SCHOLARSHIP

The Saint Michael’s Hospital Medical Staff Scholarship will award one $1,000 post secondary education scholarship for the 2010-2011 academic year to a student living in Portage County or the surrounding counties currently attending an accredited technical, undergraduate, graduate or doctoral program in a health care field.  The academic program must require a minimum of two years of post-secondary education. 

The recipient of the Saint Michael’s Hospital Medial Staff Scholarship will be chosen based on scholastic achievement, extracurricular activities, community involvement, volunteer service, strong career motivation and personal recommendations. Financial need and children of Ministry Medical Group and Saint Michael’s Hospital employees will be given strong consideration. Applications must be postmarked by March 1, 2010.  Recipients will be notified in April.

 

RICHARD A. ECKBERG MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

In 1998, the family of Richard A. Eckberg, a highly respected Rice Medical Center surgeon established the Richard A. Eckberg Memorial Scholarship with Saint Michael’s Foundation. Dr. Eckberg, who served on Saint Michael’s Hospital staff for 22 years, was a great asset to our community, and this scholarship is a fitting tribute to his commitment to health care education. 

The Richard A. Eckberg Memorial Scholarship will award one $1,000 post secondary education scholarship for the 2010-2011 academic year to a Portage County resident who is pursuing a degree in a clinical health care field, and is currently attending an accredited technical or undergraduate school.  The recipient must have completed at least one year of study by June 1, 2009 and been accepted into the institution’s professional school of study. The recipient must be pursuing their first post secondary degree. The education program required for degree completion must be at least two years in length.

The recipient will be chosen based on strong career motivation, financial need, scholastic achievement, volunteer service, extracurricular activities, personal recommendations, and relationship to Saint Michael’s Hospital or Ministry Medical Group. All applications must be postmarked by March 1, 2010.  The recipient will be notified in April.  

 

ROBERT WEAVER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Dr. Robert Weaver was a respected professor of biochemistry at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.  Dr. Weaver passed away in February 2008 after a lengthy illness that required him to receive daily treatments at Saint Michael’s Hospital.  Dr. Weaver’s family established a memorial scholarship to honor his commitment to higher education and to thank the staff of Saint Michael’s Hospital for the compassionate and quality care that was provided to him during his illness.

The Robert Weaver Memorial Scholarship will award one $1,000 education scholarship for the 2010-2011 academic year to an employee of Saint Michael’s Hospital or Ministry Medical Group who is pursuing a degree in a health care field from an accredited technical, undergraduate, graduate or doctoral program.  The educational program required for degree completion must be at least two years in length.  Recipients will be chosen based on strong career motivation, financial need, scholastic achievement, volunteer service, extracurricular activities, and personal recommendations.  Applications must be postmarked by March 1, 2010.  Recipients will be notified in April.  

 

SCHOLARSHIPS FOR EMPLOYEES OF SAINT MICHAEL’S HOSPITAL AND MINISTRY MEDICAL GROUP

There are two $1,000 scholarships available for employees of Saint Michael’s Hospital or Ministry Medical Group who are currently attending an accredited technical, undergraduate, graduate or doctoral program in a health care field.  The academic program must require a minimum of two years of post-secondary education. 

Recipients of Saint Michael’s Hospital Employee Scholarships will be chosen based on scholastic achievement, extracurricular activities, community involvement, strong career motivation and personal recommendations. Financial need will be given strong consideration. Applications must be postmarked by March 1, 2010.  Recipients will be notified in April.
