History of Ministry Saint Michael's Hospital
Founded in 1913 by the Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother, Ministry Saint Michael's Hospital provides an integrated continuum of primary and secondary health care services to Portage County and surrounding Central Wisconsin communities.
In 1998, Ministry Saint Michael's constructed a state-of-the-art, 110,000-square-foot clinic addition to the hospital that is now occupied by Rice Medical Center, a multi-specialty clinic with 60 physicians. During that time, the hospital interior was completely renovated, including the addition of a new cancer center, urgent care department, laboratory and MRI suite.
Ministry Saint Michael's has also expanded its presence in nearby communities by affiliating with family practice clinics in Amherst, Iola, Plover, Waupaca and Wautoma. Other hospital affiliates include SAINTS Health Services for Business, Ministry Behavioral Health, Hospice of Portage County, Home Health, and Kidney Centers in Stevens Point, Wausau, and Waupaca.
