Meals on Wheels
Having transportation to go to your job, to a doctor's appointment or simply to buy food for the family is something many of us take for granted. For some people, however, it's a very real concern. Thanks in part to funding provided by Ministry Saint Michael's Hospital, Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers of Portage County offers free rides to those in need in the Stevens Point, Wisconsin area.
Transportation Assistance, a service of Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers, provides needed transportation to older adults, disabled individuals and low-income families. A grant from Ministry Saint Michael's Hospital allowed the organization to hire a dedicated coordinator last year to manage the transportation service. The new staff person has helped the service realize a 15% increase in the number of rides it provides, which currently averages about 86 per month.
Other programs and services supported by Ministry Saint Michael's Hospital include: Cancer Center Support Services, Charity Care, Christian Workplace, Epilepsy Foundation of Central & Northeast Wisconsin, Family Health Medical & Dental Center, Gun Safety Awareness Programs, Meals on Wheels, Operation Bootstrap, Portage County Humane Society, and the Ronald McDonald House.
