Focus Group for Business and Industry-November Topic Suicide Prevention

This focus group meets the second Wednesday of each month from noon - 1 p.m. for a light lunch, networking and information sharing. The topic for each meeting is issue driven and educational.

Cancer Support Group Offered

The James Beck Cancer Center located at Saint Mary’s Hospital in Rhinelander offers a free monthly cancer support group, which will meet the second Thursday of every month from 10 to 11 a.m. in the James Beck Cancer Center Conference Room. Area Fourth Graders Kick Off Oneida County's Nutrition and Fitness Challenge

From October, 2009, through December, 2009, 4th grade students at Sugar Camp and Rhinelander’s Central Elementary, Nativity of our Lord, Northwoods Community Secondary, as well as Trinity Lutheran and MHLT (Minocqua, Hazelhurst, Lake Tomahawk) schools across the Northwoods are once again being issued a fun, “Fitness Challenge”. These kids are being invited to participate in the annual Healthy People Healthy Oneida County 4th Grade Nutrition and Fitness Challenge. The project aims to improve the health of youth by challenging them to practice physical activities every day.

National Mammography Day, October 16 – Early Detection Saves Lives

In the United States, more than 178,480 new cases of invasive breast cancer in women will be diagnosed this year. Thankfully, significant progress in mammography technology is helping physicians diagnose the disease earlier. In addition, the sooner breast cancer is detected, the less likely a woman will need highly invasive and uncomfortable treatments, and the more likely she will survive the disease. As a result, breast cancer survivors make up the largest group of cancer survivors.

Ministry Rehab Therapists Receive Freedom From Smoking® Facilitator Certification

Ministry Rehabilitation Services, a department of Saint Mary’s Hospital in Rhinelander is pleased to announce Gina Scheuer, OTR, Becky Kretlow, OTR and Rachel Gilbert, PT have successfully completed the training program for Freedom From Smoking® Facilitators sponsored by the American Lung Association of the Upper Midwest. The facilitator training program prepares individuals to conduct the Freedom From Smoking® (FFS) Clinic which is an adult smoking cessation program using the respective American Lung Association curriculum and materials.

Sacred Heart and Saint Mary’s Hospitals Offer Free Mammogram Screening

Sacred Heart and Saint Mary’s Hospitals are offering free mammogram screenings to women 40 years and older who reside in the hospital’s primary service area which includes Oneida, Lincoln and Forest counties. To qualify for this free service you must be over 40 years old, must not have had a mammogram in the previous 12 months due to no insurance, or lack of other financial resources to acquire this service.
