Brachytherapy involves treating disease by exposure to a radioactive substance (radiotherapy). Brachy is a Greek word meaning short, and in radiation therapy refers to treating cancerous regions by placing a radiation source close to or inside an area of concern. It is a type of radiation therapy that is used to treat various types of cancer, sometimes called internal radiation. In most cases, HDR Brachytherapy can be completed in a shorter amount of time as compared to traditional radiation treatment, allowing patients to get back to their lives sooner, and with fewer side effects.
